Default Best company for LSX 454?

I am seriously considering looking into getting an LSX 454 for my 99 TA. What are the companies with the best reputation when it comes to LSX 454s? I know that I'm looking at some $$$, but I want it to be right the first time.

I think that I was talking to SDPC many moons ago when I was looking at a 402 for my 2000 TA before a 50-60 MPH Van ended its life

We would love the opportunity to discuss a 454 lsx engine with you. If you will study the threads & data from the Texas Speed engine machining facility I think you'll find no LS vendor in the country has anywhere near the LS machining technology that Texas Speed offers it's customers.

Here's a link to the engine machine shop. What I would advise is you talk to all possible suppliers & study what they offer & what their equipement allow. The Texas Speed machine shop is a top level machine shop that uses top level technology to build ONLY LS engines.

I would love the opportunity to discuss our machine shop with you & even give you a tour of our 25,000 sq ft facility if your ever in the Lubbock area.

I would suggest Erik Koenig (HKE) or any of the experienced builders mentioned above for your build but suggest against buying it complete from GM. You'll get better parts and better attention to detail from a high end third party builder.

from what I have seen online, the price range isn't all that different, so for me it will be about quality.

Also, I want to reuse as much of my current set up as I can, for the time being. I can't drop $16K.

You looking for a long block or short block? You looking to stay NA or you going to boost it? What's your final HP goal? Anyone that has answer your original question without knowing these things is just telling you which company the like or trust more than the others. Like I had about 9-10k for the long block so that's why I just went with the crate motor but if you have say 12-13k then you can hook up with some of these companies and figure out who can make what your looking for, for the best price. I can tell you that if you want to reuse most of your stuff your not gonna want to go with the crate motor because it comes with LSX-LS7 heads that will limit your intake options. No matter what setup you go with a engine this big is going to want at leat 1 7/8 headers so if you don't have them yet your gonna have to get new headers too add that to your budget. Stock injectors won't cut it either. Little stuff like this adds up so don't just inquire about the engine saying I have say a 12k budget and spent 99% of it on the long block cause the other little stuff will put you over. No matter which way you go good luck man.

Staying N/A. If I can reuse my LS1 heads, Water pump, oil pump, heads, and 90mm LSX intake, then I'll just go for the shortblock. I know that the 90mm set up and the LS1 heads will choke the 454, but I'd rather upgrade later to end up with better equipment.

I already have 1 7/8 - 3" headers and 3" true duals
I already have upgraded injectors, water pump, valvetrain, and pushrods.

I know that the LS1 heads and 90mm intake will choke the 454 in a disturbing way, but I want to get the big $$$ item first (shortblock), then build upon it.

You would be better off money wise and performance wise to sell those heads you have and buy a long block from one of the companies mentioned. Still not sure what your goal is power wise but money wise your probably looking at a 10-11k long block setup reusing your intake and exhaust setup.
