Default Has anyone run stock LS2 valvesprings with a smaller cam?

So I got a stuck in a bit of a shitty position the other day and ended up doing a tune on an LS2 GTO with a small cam and stock valve springs. This was for a shop that usually works more with old school stuff, it wasn't something I had a hand in planning.

If I recall, the cam specs were 224/228 .550/.550 on a 112. Not a max effort setup by any means, so I backed off the rev limiter and shift points pretty far. I typically won't tune cammed cars if they don't have upgraded springs, but due to rare circumstances and low lift I made an exception. FWIW this one didn't seem to float up to 6k at least, but I didn't want to push it further without a little more knowledge on the stock parts.

Has anyone run stock LS2 springs on anything comparable?

official GM released info on LS2 stock springs
Valve Springs - Valve Spring Load - Closed
340 N at 45.75 mm
76 lb at 1.8 in

Valve Springs - Valve Spring Load - Open
980 N at 33.55 mm
220 lb at 1.32 in

max lift is .570", but i wouldnt push past .550
so your dancing on a fine line, if you REALLY cant afford it or dont have to time or tools to do the springs yourself, then you could run stocks, but idk about raising your RPMs from stock limit

Thanks for throwing the specs out there. Definitely doesn't inspire confidence, but it should live in the RPM range I left him to play with.

Yeah, .550 is about the limit. If you keep the revs at no more than 6k, it should be okay.
