I was just going to use ARP head bolts but figured I would use studs after finding the ones listed on the post below. I got mine thru Alper Motorsports for 60.00 a set.

Go with studs. They will be well worth the money when you upgrade your engine.

Is there any problem with leaking like old school motors or does it not go in water jacket.

Bolts make it alot easier to pull the heads off while in the car, if you ever have too. Just my opinion.

Damn $60 for studs is a helluva deal. How was the quality and do you have to purchase 2 sets one for each head or does one set cover both heads?

Studs are a look what I got type of thing unless you are builing full race motor or motor that will see a lot of bost. I would go with just the bolts.

No not on LS1's the bolt holes don't go into water jackets.

Once you get the nuts off the studs you can pull the stud out and still get the heads off in the car.

There are more reasons than building a race motor and running spray to use studs over bolts. Studs all the way. Buy the studs and dont look back.

No doubt the studs are superior. The thing is the expense is unneccessary since they aren't needed on a mild street/strip type motor.

Why do you say that, if you want, all the studs that I have seen you can pull out with a allen wrench and when you install any stud it should be just a little over hand tight into the block

I agree, I would pick even the cheaper studs over the factory head bolts, if you look at the factory bolts they are only a grade 10.9, that is like putting a grade 8 bolt to hold down the head

Studs, they also can be used again. We prefer ARP's but here lately it seems that some people are having great luck with the KMJ/Procomp studs sold through Alper Motorsports/Ebay. Just my .02

What are you guys torquing these alper studs too?? Alper says 52 on the 11mm and 19 on the 6 mm. ARP has 80 on the 11mm and 25 on the 6mm.. Installing my Alper's on Monday if I can find the torque specs.
