Default Need help from the Pros degreeing my cam, please.

Hi Everyone,
I am a novice when it comes to degreeing a cam, so I really need some
help from the experts. Don’t want to mess this up. Just want max performance out of this cam.
Little about my setup. 02 z06, Engine is a ls2 440ci, 1-7/8 Long tubes, Ls7 ported heads and manifold, CAI
and cam that is on the Cam Card pictured below.
I have read that advancing the cam gives low and mid range power and retarding the cam moves the power more to the top end. If anything I prefer to retard (move power to the top end)the cam since this engine has a lot of low end already.
First I installed the timing gear set dot to dot or straight up I think its called. Checking with the degree wheel and dial indicator I got the following.

Dot to Dot
115 center line and valve timing open @ .050 was 2.5 degrees.

Then I set the cam gear(see picture) to R2 and got
118 center line and valve timing open @ .050 was 0 degrees.
I also check the R2 setup @ .006 intake opening and the degree wheel was at a hair over 25 degrees.

Didn’t check the dot to dot setup at .006. Should I?

What do you think is the better set up or am I doing something wrong.

Thank you for your help!
Christian

The dot-to-dot, if it is 2.5 BTDC, is right. That is exactly where I would install it.

Thanks for the reply G8-4-speed!
So it would be .5 degrees retard, correct? I know .5 won't make much difference, but retard is what I want for for top end power correct?
And 118 center line is ok?

Thanks!

That .5 is nothing. Will run great on a 115ICL. Should have plenty of top-end. Hope you have enought tire for it.....

Not a lot you can do without an adjustable timing set like the Cloyes. You can confirm that it's ground correctly but that's about it.

His options are pretty open with the 9-keyway timing set. He can even experiment but closest to +0(114ICL) is where it should do best at.

So would you say go with R2 valve timing open @ .050 was 0 degrees with a118 ICL or the dot to dot? 0 degree will get more top end correct. what does +0 mean? And how can I get +0 and 114 ICL ?
Or to make it simple, set it dot to dot or R2 or something else? I dont want to just slap it in, I'd like it dialed in for max power. One more thing, which way will make it more danderous for valve clearance?

Sorry if these are dumb questions, just learning.

Thanks
Christian
