Default Invincible crank pulley bolt.

so, i bought a used lq4 for 100 bucks a couple weeks back complete minus oil pan and harnesses. reason being it spun the main bearing closest to the front of the engine because the oil pump went out. i know the odds are i will have to get it line drilled but when i go to check for damage i started having trouble getting off the crank pulley bolt. i ended up borrowing my brothers pneumatic tools and sat around trying to get it off running 120 psi to the wrench. i practically made it swim in pb blaster. wont budge. only tried counterclockwise however and it was brought to my attention it could be a reverse thread bolt. anyone know anything about this? any advice would help at this point!!

I doubt it's a reverse cut thread bolt, does the bolt look like a stock bolt ? Get a long breaker bar and a 2 foot pipe and give it hell.

Go to a tire shop that works on big truck tires and ask to use there 3/4 or 1" impact! If you have a small compressor even tho you are at 120 psi you have low cfm!

I've seen where people welded a torque converter to a flywheel, and belive it or not I have seen a starter welded to a small block Chevrolet cause one of the bolts was broke off! You never know what people do!!!!

I had the same problem when using a 1/2" gun from harbor freight, rated at 300 ft. lbs. I used a 800 ft. lbs 1/2" gun and presto. No wimpy guns will work.

well i got a 3 or so foot bar i can use as a breaker bar, its a jack handle but the end is a 1/2 inch drive. I'll use that and beat it to death for about 15 min. i was lookin into it more on other forums and apparently thats what it takes sometimes. and yea im eventually going to invest in a nice air wrench set, just dont have one now. also my buddy from school recommended heating the block too. so i figure a space heater would do it good since its 30F all day haha. Thanks for all the help guys! ill try some good brute force and post how it goes.

P.s. yea i wouldnt doubt finding something ridiculous while im tearing into it. i have an integra and i have seen some ghetto innovations i thought never existed while i was checking everything out.

The factory uses red loctite on the threads for the crank bolt. It takes a LOT of torque to break it loose. Like other have said, get some heat on the head of the bolt to help soften the loctite and then use a long breaker bar and put some muscle behind it, or get a real impact gun and it'll come off.

beating dead horse here, but neither my craftsman professional impact and IR titanium impact had enough azz to get crank bolts out. Borrowed a little more serious Mac impact from a friend and buzzed off like nothing.

I got tired of using inferior impacts and decided to get serious and bought an IR Thunder Gun. It's heavy, but I'm not using it for 8 hours a day either. And if I really need to get serious, I crank up the psi to 150psi, but have only had to do that once.

Before anyone screams about it being too much psi, NASCAR uses the same guns and uses nitrogen tanks to feed them at 200psi.

I cheated...my dad owns a crane rental service so I snagged one of his 1" drive ratchets with a tq multiplier...came off like it was hand tight.

I wrestled with that darn bolt for hours before I searched on here for someone with the same problem. 3 minutes of heat from a torch and it broke loose with no effort at all. Definitely locktite on the threads.
