Default Oil Leak on Fresh LS6 - Help!

So I think I made a rookie mistake on the rebuild of my first LS motor. Slapped it all back together (lifter caused a rebuild). With about 100 miles on it I'm getting an oil leak at the rear of the engine, maybe 5-6 drops after a half hour of sitting after being run. After lots of searching I've now found out I should have installed a valley cover gasket.

Of course now this makes sense, but after dropping off the short block to the machine shop I got the valley cover back in a box and had never taken it off, and from looking at it initially it didn't appear to "seal" much. From what I remember and from the pictures I have, none of the sensors pass through it and I can't find any reason it would be under any major pressure, but my question to you guys is, do you think a valley cover gasket missing could cause a leak like that? I'll be replacing it either way but I'd like input. Pictures of the engine below:
