Default Operating temp swap, opinions?

So I'm thinking about dropping from the standard 187 degrees to 160 degrees. I know about having to tune my fans down, etc. But I'm told this might actually rob performance rather than help it. I talked to the boys at mayhem, and they said that they run all of their ls1s at 160. Would i actually be doing any good if I dropped my car down to that? Or does it rob my performance and ruin the longevity of my engine?

I read that the higher temp will help get the moisture out of the oil. Too bad noome knows who to trust. LOL Seems most just run 160*

I run a 160 stat and set the fans at 185 and 205. Runs about 187 and the oil temps get to about 200 keeps the water out.
Dads car has a stock stat and the fans are set just above that fans don't run much.

I'm trying to bring the overall temp of the block down. I don't want it to run that hot. I was having predet problems, and this is just a precaution to stop it from happening again. Any chance its going to effect performance?

If you are detonating it fix the tune.
Also depends on how the bearing clearances are set on the engine. I don't put any load on my engine till the oil and water is above 180.

Trying to fix a problem caused by tuning is asking for more problems.
