ls2 budget rebuild
i am doing a budget rebuild on my ls2 and have a couple options
the bores range from 4.001-4.0025" (after de-glazing) do i need to bore this block? from the factory call for only .0012" clearance. and .0031 service limit
if i run the stock pistons the cyl with the most clearance would be .004"
my options so far
1) run the stock pistons and rock auto DNG 80$ rings
2) get new DNG pistons and rings from rock auto for ~304$ has any one used these pistons? any good? what would they measure 4.000 exactly?
3) I can get new stock gm pistons and rings new for 400$ (delivered) would i be better off with new stock pistons over the dng? if even one ends up at exactly 4" then i would only have .0025 on the worst cyl. (probably wouldn't have to re-balance assy)
4) buy 4.005 bore pistons and get block honed to 4.005, this would require me to re-balance the rotating assy and is quickly getting out of my budget.
5) sell ls2 block and put 243 heads and cam in my ls1 (will the cam and front cover fit on ls1?)

the guy selling the new stock gm pistons says they mic out to 4.001 on the skirt. that would leave me with .0015 clearance, will that be satisfactory? i don't want piston slap if i can avoid it.

I dont have the book with the specs in front of me, but I think you should stick some stock rings in it and measure the gaps, that would give you a good indicator of what to do.
