Default Getting my ducks in a row- Convert LQ4/9 to 58X

Through searching I have gathered only bits an pieces. Wanted to know if I'm missing anything.

I wan't to swap a LQ4/LQ9 into another car of mine (non Fbody) and convert the motor for 58x to run a newer harness and use the smaller PCM.

Reasons
  • Wish to mount the pcm behind the dash, its very compact behind the dashboard plus vintage air unit will go behind the dash as well so that makes it even more crowded.
  • Wanting to build a ls2 for boost, so while that very slow process develops, and when its complete it will be a simple change over.
  • No I do not want to use the conversion box.
What needs to be done to convert over to 58x, let me know if I'm missing anything please.
  • Drill/Tap side of block for Knock sensors
  • Swap 58x reluctor wheel onto the 24x crank
  • New Crank Sensor
  • LS2 timing cover with New Sensor
  • Swap in ls2 cam gear
  • Plug hole in back of block where the old cam sensor was.

I'm not sure whether you already have your new computer and harness but the E40 PCM is smaller than the 411 and was used on 24x LS2's from the factory on the GTO, Trailblazer SS and SSR.

In other words, you can have the smaller PCM you desire without converting reluctor wheels.

Interesting, now I have something else to do research on. I assume this pcm still uses a front timing cover with cam sensor? Looking on just ebay e40 pcm is pretty pricey just by itself.

easier to just swap crank for used crank. a lot of guys go 58 --->24 too. just find someone and make the trade straight across.
