Default what cause this comp lifter to go bad?

The cam and lifters was bought used together from a well know person on this board..i inspected them. Every looked almost new.(only had a few pulls and passes on cam and lifters) After 1300 miles of breaking in new engine..lifters went bad and took out the cam..what caused this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

BTW this is the second time a set of comp lifters went bad. The housing on the lifter broke(by the pin) and took out the cam on my other ls1. Has comp had a problem the lifters..these are the 850-16 on both engines

It usually starts with valve control issues.

Since you said this is the second set that did this, it could be something with your oiling system too.

That is a healthy cam for an LS1.

Why are you even using tray style lifters with that much cam? You would need a very good spring for that cam. At least 400 lbs of open pressure.

Looks like they were walking around in the plastic guides. You can see the cam whacked the edges of the rollers, Only way that can happen is if the lifter is turning in the bore.

that cam was in a ls2 (402) 11.8 cr,TFS heads,etc... the plastic guides were new. my old ls1(382) had even a bigger cam(258/264 previous owner) it had 8-10K on cam before lifter broke.
