Default 5.3 LMG engine lifter cam swap

First post on here, but have gotten lots of info from this site in the past. All of our projects have always gotten BBC power but time to move with the times. Hope this is in the right forum??.. maybe should be in the coversion/swap??
Have a complete wrecked truck to do an engine swap. 07 5.3 LMG engine with the AFM. Is the long block the same?? can i do a cam and lifter swap and get rid of the AFM?? Prob gonna use the MSD controller and carb. Just didn't know if the block was the same or if I should completely stay away from this engine. Rolled the truck, (1/2 ton two wheel drive with 4L60e), and have the complete truck to work with. I kinda understand how the afm works just wasn't sure if the oil passages, etc. in the block are different or if you can just delete all of that.

i recently acquired a 2008 LY5 5.3 Gen IV,,, unfortunately im not sure what the differences are as oppsed to the older non afm,,, im in your same boat. The only thing that i know for sure is this motor was a fuel management,,,,it had 4 pairs of solenoids under the valley pan (cylinder/lifter deactivation)....so far from looking at part comparisons,,,,,all seems to be the same. But again don't quote me.
- if you do find any info out,,,msg me,, were are going down the same path, i too am topping a carb on this baby. cam,,,and nice intake. Good luck!!

You can get rid of AFM no problem. DOD & VVT delete kits are available below. This should help.
