Default PTV Clearance am I screwed???

I had to get one head repaired because I left water in the car over thanksgiving here in NJ and the front of the head cracked. While at the machine shop getting repaired they found it was warped and shaved .010 off of it.

Here's the problem. My combo is a LQ9 with L92 heads. I know PTV is close to start with. Am I gonna have to clay the motor now?

Its a PAT G Spec'd Cam all based on non milled L92's

637/615 231/238, 111+1

once I get the other head off I am taking it over to him to get looked at now.

Dude that sucks. Taking 10 thousandths I would probably feel much safer using clay. You could probably talk to Pat and ask hiM what he thinks but that's just me personally. A few hours and a set of head gaskets as opposed to folding a few valves.

BTW, are they going to match the other head also?

Its either have him clean up the other head to match or look for a bare casting somewhere and transfer my stuff into it.

Sorry man, sounds like you just hit a shitty situation. I would definitely want to clay those pistons if it were me. Did you check when the cam was initially installed or were the heads already on?

I just got word from Patrick that my PTV clearance will now be in the .065-.070" range....

I know that's kinda tight. I'm still debating on trying it or bucking up $250 for cometic head gaskets to make up the .010 difference.

Any opinions on if I should sent it or what?
This motor will only be together for the summer and its getting upgraded in the fall, may hit it with a 100-150 shot until then though..

You can find the cometics cheaper than that if you shop around a bit. I just searched and its crazy that nobody makes a .060 gasket except Cometic. Not even Fel-Pro or Mr. Gasket.

Always check Piston to Valve every time. This is part of the engine build process. This includes verifying piston to cylinder head deck clearance as well as valve radial clearance. Not just depth.

That was just from their site. $123 each $95 for anything under .060.
I thought that was odd too that there isn't anywhere else to get something thicker than factory without going cometics....

Glad it all worked out man! Still clay it though.. it won't take 20 minutes to do something that could easily save 1k.

I had an lq9 with L92 heads milled 0.020" with a stock mls head gasket and a g5x3 112 lsa...I ended up flycutting 0.060" on the intake side. The exhaust was a little closer than I'd have liked but it didnt have to be flycut.
My x3 specd out at 234/243 .598/.611 111.5+4...a little bigger than your cam but definitely check your ptv clearance.
