Default Pulling crank without pulling rods and pistons

I would like to change my reluctor wheel so I can run a newer ecu. Can the crank be pulled from the bottom and re installed without removing the rods and pistons?

I would suggest you use Rod Bolt Protectors or at least cut some pieces of rubber hose to fit over your rod bolts before you actually pull the crankshaft out and keep them on until you have the crankshaft back in. They will protect your crank journals from getting nicked by the rod bolts and also protect the threads on the rod bolts.

You've never actually pulled an LS engine apart, have you?

The rod bolts in an LS are technically a "capscrew". When the cap comes off, the rods bolts go with it. The older style rods were different, and that's where the protectors are used, not on an LS engine.

Actually I have I just wasn't thinking lol. I've been working on a few traditional small blocks recently.

Why not just call Lingenfelters and buy a TRG-001 conversion module.

Ah gotcha. There are definitely some SBC processes that still apply, but some stuff doesn't.

The OP is wanting to run the newer computers compatible with the 58x reluctor. This converts a 58x signal to 24x so that an older ecu can be used on a newer engine.

It'll be tough to get all the rods back on the journals without taking the heads off. I assume if you've got it out, you're at a point where pulling the heads is not that big a deal.

I can see this snowballing into a much bigger project as you dig deeper, though.

I've actually had to do this one time, it's really not too bad. Just tedious.

I'm about to swap crankshaft for a different reason (changing 2000 LQ4 to 2001+ to work with a T56.

Is it still difficult to get all the rods back on the journals even though I'm swapping stock crank for stock crank, or is that something specific to the Lingenfelter conversion module?

I put a 05 in an 08 thinking it was a 58 tooth like the 08
Do I need to pull engine or is there ways around this

By the time you tear the engine apart far enough to pull the crank, it's really not much more to pull the engine anyways, so I don't really see the point.
