Default LS2 based 454 vs. LSX 454

Just wondering what would be the downside of a sleeved LS2 454 compared to an iron block LSX 454.

Ones aluminum and ones iron. The ls2 454 is mostly for na. Possibly little bit of spray. The lsx is used mostly for boost applications

A lsx 454 or aluminum 454 don't do boost. Not cause of the block but lack of head gasket between bores. If you look at ERL blocks there are a lot of big horse power boosted blocks. Look at ohio boys cars.

I am currently building a ls3 based 454...I am getting a short block from ERL so it is going to be sleeved by them....

I would have no issues boosting a resleeved LS2. The new sleeves are a better material (ductile iron vs cast iron) and they are longer.

That said, I definitely would not do boost with a 4.185 bore.

On the 4.185 bore, the space between the cylinders is very narrow so the head gasket is not conducive to boost....

The block material is irrelevant.

Default Boosted LS2

Correct on the material and bore.

4.155" is the max. safe bore on these blocks if boosted or nitrous for head gasket seal. That leaves roughly .230" for the head gasket to seal on when you take into consideration the chamfer on the bores.

The LS2 with Darton Seal Tight dry liners is holding 1,200+ to the wheels. I just finished sleeving another LS2 for twin turbo with the same power goal.

The 5.3 and 6L aluminum Gen IV truck castings are stronger with their solid main bearing bulkheads. These are the strongest of the production castings.
