Default 00 lq4 with ls3 top end??

ok i have read that 99-00 lq4s have a longer crank only usable with a 4l80. I will probably use another crank during the rebuild as this 1 needs to hit the machine shop anyway... my question here is I see lots of threads about people using a ls3 top end on an lq4. does the fact that mine is from 2000 make a difference? and if it can be done what would i need to change. i know there are other threads like this 1, so i am sorry if these questions have been asked before.

thanks in advance for all your help

Engine year doesn't matter, and you just need the top end like heads, rockers, intake manifold, fuel rails, injectors and throttle body.

If you are indeed taking it to the machine shop, a larger bore can help unshroud those large valves. If you are going with new pistons that is. And with H/E thermal coated pistons from Fed Mogul being very affordable, it seems like a no brainer really.

the guy i bought it off of replaced the rod bolts with a set of arp bolts, so i was thinking of keeping stock pistons and rods, but my buddys dad was telling me to look into a stroker kit as opposed to having the stock crank machined and reusing the stock pistons/rods. its going to be a turbo motor, not sure what it will go in yet.

Do it right while it's out.

Forged pistons and rods. Bore it a little 4.010 is what I did. I wouldn't go to a bigger stroke, I like the piston to stay in the cylinder as much as possible for boosted applications.

Ls9 gaskets and a cam spec'ed for your application and goals.

You can go one of 2 ways. Def new bearings. Then either forged rods and pistons using stock crank or a whole forged stroker assy. The whole stroker assy will be quite a bit more money but can possibly net you a bit more power. A 4" stroke will not bring the piston out of the cylinder.

We can help you with any of your options or choices just let us know!

The key word you said it is will be a turbo motor. You can use some of the better stock style hyper-e pistons that we can get yah with a thermal coating but you def would need a better rod. Either the LS2 or a forged. Both are going to be about the same price new.

NA would be no problem ,but you dont want to build the motor twice. That is a waste of money.
