Callies AP#31R-CL Callies LS-1 SBC Compstar Crankshaft 3.825" Stroke 2.100" Pin LS-1
Counterweight prepped to balance a bob weight up to 1680g
Gun Drilled Mains
#1 & #4 Rod Journals Lightened
Case Nitride Heat Treatment
I've seen this crank at a really good price. Of course, it appears to be customized given the description above. What I'm looking for is an explanation of how the above modification will effect performance and what steps would need to be taken by the engine builder in order to use it.
Teach me.

This crank is designed to use a lighter piston/rod assembly and will need a custom piston for the stroke. The bobweight isn't really low so you could use a light steel rod with matching piston. Trying to save money by using a weird/semi custom setup can cost you more than off the shelf parts and may not make as much power unless it's fully utilized. What are you trying to build?

I'd use a 6.125 Compstar HD I-Beam and 4.070 custom piston to build a 400 (ok 398 but close enough). The money saved on the crank would go into the better rods and custom pistons. This would be a blower motor.
Truth is, I'm not going to do it. I am committed to a forged 377. I'm just curious as to the difficulty of such a project. This crank is brand new for 660 and I know wiseco could make a piston in about 2 weeks.
I think it'd be kinda cool to have something a little different but I'm not all that interested in being a guinea pig either..... fleeting thought is really all it is.
