24x Reluctor wheels
A while back I recall reading that the replacement wheels GM supplied were no good and would come apart. There seem to be billet replacements available. I'm about to have the 58x wheel on my LS7 crank replaced with a 24x, should I go with the billet wheel or is a GM replacement part OK? The engine will probably be only spun up to 6800RPM since the katech torquer does not need the RPM.

The only time the increased resolution is of any benefit is when you have the CPU power to use it. Even then its only needed for emissions and the advanced features like VVT and AFM.
My question has to do with billet vs stock 24x wheels and if the problems reported are unique to aftermarket cranks or some years of stock wheels.

From the factory(GM) the 58x wheel is one piece that don't come apart as the 24x two piece sandwich together tend to come lose over time. Some engine builders have spot weld them together to keep them from coming lose. Callies and others have made a one piece billet 24x reluctor wheel to remedy this issue. Hope this answers your initial question.
BTW, I have one extra from Callies if interested.

I know I'm Necroing an old thread, but there no sense to making my own if I we can just add the info here.
What is the "average" price, to replace a reluctor wheel? I need to go from 58 to 24, and are the Billet worth the price over the oem that's been spot welded?
Thanks!
