It's not hard to reinstall and align it properly. Pull it off, install your chain damper, then reinstall the pump.

When I installed my pump I used the Oil Pump Alignit tool from sac city corvette, and it worked like a charm...are you sure you need to pull the pump to get the dampener in there though?

Edit: just went back and looked at the pics of my oil pump install and you definitely need to pull the pump to get the dampener in there...please ignore my previous comment...

Yea I was hoping to install without removing the pump but its to tight! I was a bit Leary of the Sac tool because it says in the comments you should still check it with feeler gauges or something to that effect. I have their other tools already which seem like they will do a good job but that's not as critical as the pump!

The sac city tool is all I used and it worked perfectly...haven't had any issues with the pump, though it has only been run on the engine dyno...

I have no idea how long oil pump damage would take before you start seeing issues I just hate to open the pump if I don't need to to confirm all is good.

with the sac city tool it fits in the oil pump pretty snug. I'd imagine thats all you need. It does leave a little wiggle room on dry sump pumps though.
