Default Ls1 emissions legal cam

Hey guys first time posting on this site. Just looking to see if anybody has put a decent sized cam in their ls1 fbody. If anybody has, are their certain ones that won't pass emissions. I live in northwest indiana! Thanks

Are you sure your county has emissions testing, as in a sniffer in the exhaust pipe?

You'll need a fairly small cam to pass such a test, at which point there will be other mods that can gain you more power than a tiny emissions friendly cam.

Ok plain and simple. I'm wanting to build my motor up! But if I'm going to have trouble passing emissions test for indiana I'm wondering if a motor from Thompson Motorsport will be an issue as well?

It's not who you get it from, but what components you put in (mainly the cam).

So tell us what sort of "emissions" you have and then we can tell you what kind of cam to get.

OP. It is truly all in how you put it together. The short block will have no effect on the emissions, The Camshaft will determine your emissions. We have some emissions friendly options, With good heads you can make up for a small camshaft. Please let us know if we can help you with anything.

I have to do emissions here in Hamilton county in Chattanooga TN and i have a 231/235 .617/.621 113+3LSA cam and i passed no problem. I also have high flow cats as well. Hope this helps, my emissions didn't stick a sniffer in my exhaust either. If they did then they would half to crawl underneath my car to do it bc i have dumps

Well I was wanting to get the boost king long block it believe it is the 370. I just want something that will sound mean and still be street legal with about >450 hp I'm not very sure of what type of emissions just that it's clean air check. And they make sure the engine light isn't on! So I'm wondering if anything on the boostking will set any of my sensors off

No you will be fine as long as no lights are on. If your car is OBD2 they don't stick the sniffer in your tail pipe. So cam choice wont matter. If its anything like my emissions then they hook it up underneath the dash, check for the cats, scan the vin number, check the gas cap and your done. So a tune should take care of all that.

MAC is right. It will depend on the emissions test done. Here in TX if the car is tuned it is not a problem with even the most aggressive camshafts. In CA where they use a sniffer which really limits our camshaft selection. I am not familiar with the emissions laws there but I am sure with a little asking around you can find out how stringent they are there. Let me know if we can help in any way.

Actually CA ha changed the SMOG laws here. I believe it's 2005MY cars and newer will be done in OBDII connection and visual only. Obviously this still eliminates LTs, HFCs, etc...
However, what they can't see, they can't inspect! I have been kicking around the idea of a mild camshaft as well. Good luck OP- hope you find the cam setup you're looking for.

Why would it eliminate Hiflow cats, LTs? Is cali that strict on there visual inspection? Plus how can they tell the difference between the look on Hiflow cats vs normal cats? I have dumps, LT, n Hiflow cats n i pass my OBD2 emissions test with ease

Our 224R cam on a 114° LSA is the largest cam we stock that should pass CA. smog emissions. We all know how stringent they are over there.
