Default 800hp LS3 Parts Requirements

Within the next month, I will be getting a new LS3 shortblock capable of 1000+hp but I'll only be pushing 7-800 at the start. I'm curious to know what would be recommended or required for the various parts other than the rotating assembly. I'm looking like lifter, rocker arms, timing chain setup, flex plate, pushrod thickness, ect.

How much you wanna spend? Cause you can use shaft mounted rocker or just buy stud mounted rockers,3/8 pushrods or heavy walled thinner ones....etc. or some good Morel lifters or bushed lifters on and so on. Also how big is the motor, N/a higher rpm or a lower rpm F/I build. Cause 700fwhp or 800fwhp adds up to either one of the ?"s in the last sentence.

That what needs to be asked cause a 700hp n/a build will want 1 or 2 things E85 or some Rpm's but a bigger engine will cut down on the Rpm's

It's gonna be a daily driven magnacharged stock cube LS3 build. Not an all out racecar but it needs to be reliable once I do take it out to the track. It'll be pump gas and meth injected

Think of it this way how much power are they getting out of the factory LS9 Venengence is my reference. Some upgraded factory parts should do just fine.

Well I currently have an LS3 so I was going to reuse as many parts as I could (definitely new lifters though) just didnt know about the rockers, timing chain, ect.

This is right up our alley. High horse power street cars.
Choosing the correct parts on the front half and being aware of their cycle life in their new found high horsepower usage is key. Give us some insight on the total package and we can assist you.

Which magancharger are you running? Do you already have it? I drive my ctsv around every day making 710whp thru a 6l90 and then spray it to 970whp. I've only sprayed about 80 bottles thru it. You don't need anything crazy, stock rockers, med size cam, don't build a stroker motor, 9.5 compression at least, e85 or meth injection.

2300. I've had it but started losing compression in 2 cylinders (could be due to improper tune...) I figured since it's a new engine, I might want something in there just to lessen my worries (ls7 lifters can still fail). It going to be a stock displacement, -15cc pistons and I'm shooting for around 9.5ish compression. A snow meth kit is already on the car waiting to be used.

You could pretty much use most stock parts just make sure that the compression is low enough. Nice idea of you using a aftermarket lifter.

Build is as follows (so far):
  • TMS LS3 (stock displacement)
    • New GM crank
    • Scat I-beams
    • Diamond -15cc pistons
    • Melling oil pump
    • King Racing bearings (rod and main)
    • Arp rod bolts and main studs
  • Heads
    • Manley SS valves
    • Ported intake, exhaust and combustion chamber
    • Milled 0.030
  • Cam - Still determining the grind (suggestions? Want blower friendly but lopey)
  • Morel Linkbar lifters
  • 3/8th pushrods (length TBD)
  • Dual spring kit (depends on cam lift)
  • Comp Trunion upgrade
  • ARP head studs
  • LS9 Gaskets
  • ID850 injectors (possibly DW instead)

This all makes for about $7700 if purchased from one place since I haven’t searched for cheaper. Anything else I should look into or that yall would change?

If your goal is 1000 HP, forget the Scat rods and GM crank. Start looking at Oliver, Carrillo, or Crower rods and a Callies, Lunati, or Crower crank.

You might want to look for an LS9 block as its has several upgrades designed for boost. There are some used ones for sale fairly reasonable.

The next thing to consider is the cars drive train. It will need considerable upgrades.

Good luck!

List looks good with the exception of the crank and rods. The crank can probably handle it but I'd just get Callie's crank and rods to be safe. Also since you're gonna be pushing that maggie pretty hard look into the cooling mods so you can have consistency.

Hmm the more I look, a 416 upgrade from TMS is only $550 more than the one I currently have picked out and it has a 1100hp rating with a 1 year warranty.. Not sure if I wanna do stroked and s/c but I could also go with the stock stroke forged crank.

Specs on it is everything above but
  • TMS 4340 Forged H-Beam Connecting rods
  • TMS/RPM 4340 Forged Crankshaft

As for cooling, Ive already got a new heat exchanger and Ill be making a 1.5 gal reservoir. Probably going to go with an LS9 pump to replace the magnacharger pump and maybe some internal cooling mods to the maggie itself. Other than getting a super chiller that attaches to the AC, not much else can be done.
