need for some advice : ls1 stroker 383 or ls3 bolts on
Hi everyone,
I have an impala 96 already swap to ls1 & t56 for now I want to have more power , my goal is reach between 550 to 600 hp & I thinking for more tq also. but I want reach that with daily car just few weekend street drag race, it's important that I can drive the car every day , so I have two ideas to make that but I don't know which one is better & cost me less . budget is open but if I can save some of it why not ,my ideas is :
1- stroker 383 for my ls1 (maybe add supercharge in the near future)
or
2-swap to ls3 bolts on .
I don't want to use big cam in either way.
which way is cost me less that other , how much it's cost me for each way ?

I was just in this same boat. wanted to go 383 with my ls1. However ur looking at 2500-3000 do to the stroker with good components. I could not make myself spend that much on a motor that has a 3.9 bore. yea i know i could resleeve the block but thats another 2k. I went ahead and just purchased an ls3 block and plan on putting the same type stroker kit and make 416 cubes for the same price. Now i can use a ls3/l92 style head also. as to where the ls1 woulda been stuck with the cathedral port head. If it were mine id do an ls3 because u have a better platform to continue to grow with. also the ls3 block is better/stronger than the ls1. Your car is heavy so id go as big bore/stroke u could to try getting as much low end torque as possible. Just my .02

Look around... I got an L76 out of a junkyard for $700. It is out of a Pontiac G8. Its a 6.0 aluminum block with LS3 style heads. Its not as sexy as an LS3 but once you throw a 4 inch stroker crank in it, its not gonna matter. I removed all the DOD components on mine, lifters/trays valley cover, timing cover, etc, and I'm doing going after 500+whp, just a very conservative estimate. Stock LS3 heads flow 600+hp. Well worth the upgrade to a gen4 block
