Default Guys with ARP main studs...

Did your kits come with washers? I bought a new (unopened) 234-5608 kit several years ago off E-Bay and never noticed it had no washers. I looked on ARP's site and see that they, in fact, do not come with washers. Even e-mailed their tech dept and was told they aren't required. My old turbo Buick has had main studs since around 2000, and it has washers under each nut. Is there a reason to NOT use washers? I'd really rather have a little protection for the main caps (at least for the 10mm studs) so the cap material doesn't get "smeared" after a few uses (tried to find a pic of what I'm talking about, but couldn't). I worked in a refinery unit for 35 years and saw many instances of stud-nuts being torqued down and galling the exchanger heads or pump cases, don't want to see this on my build...

I know mine have them. Should also come with washers for the win age tray.

My windage tray nuts have serrated heads. I can get (20) M10 chrome moly ARP washers for $23 shipped and prolly will. How about the (10) M8 side bolts? I'm thinking washers could cause sealing issues and possible oil leaks...

I always hit the side bolts with a little RTV under the head to avoid any seepage. I've never used washers on them though.

I think you're on to something with the main studs though...

The ARP main studs use a flanged nut, no washer.

At one point they did change to the newer style flanged nut (2009?)

I don't believe washers are included for the windage tray, because I've had to add flat washers to clearance the tray a few times.

Yup, my nuts are flanged with a 0.815" OD. Got two 10-packs of washers off E-Bay today, they have a 0.850" OD so should be slightly larger than the nut's flange. I'd rather have them than possibly gouge up the main caps...

Thanks!
