Help on LS3 Cam choice
Hello,
I am looking at purchasing a BTR cam for an LS3 short block.
Car: 3rd gen F-body
Trans: T56
Gear: none but looking at 3.90-4.11 (leaning towards 4.11)
Heads: Stock Ls3 with BTR .660 platinum springs, BTR pushrods. CNC could be in the future.
Intake: LS3 Looking at getting a 92mm cable TB.
Headers: 1 7/8 hooker long tubes
Power goal: At least 450, but good mid range is important as this is mainly a street car.
Looking to maintain good drive-ability. This is a street car that will maybe see 1 drag strip and 1 or 2 autoX a year for fun.
Thanks!

Brian knows his ****. There is 3 sponsors I'd consider in spec'ing a rect. port cam. Patrick G, BTR and Martin Smallwood of Martin SmallwoodraceDevelopment.
I PERSONALLY would use Patrick G. It costs either $25 or $50, but its spec'd to your specific car and goals. Martin will do it for free when you buy his cam. BTR probably does too.

I always point people towards Martin Smallwood for all things cam related. The others mentioned definitely can spec you a decent cam as well. I doubt you need anything as large as the comp cam mentioned, but I'm no expert. Good luck and let us know what you end up with.

Spoke with BTR and we narrowed it down to two options. I am looking at either of these cams.
225/238 .612"/.585" 113+3
229/244 .615"/.595" 113+4.
Not sure. Thoughts?

I'm looking at going 1 7/8 long tube headers into a Y with cut out and then muffler then SLP over the back. Would like it somewhat tame without the cutouts open I do frequent 5 hour one way trips in it and want to be able to hold a conversation.

I like the cam choice. And I understand if it's a budget issue with the exhaust, but if you can at all afford it, go with the duals. You can make a true dual set-up plenty quiet enough to drive and hold a conversation.

The reason why I was planing to go with the route I mentioned was because I have an SLP LM1 cat back without the resonater already from a 2000 Camaro I bought for parts. My car is currently a bone stock 3rd Gen. Buying the LS3 drained all the money. Time to start saving again and start the swap.

**** an SLP loudmouth is just as bad as true duals lol. I'm actually starting an LSX swap on my 3rd gen as well and I have a stock exhaust/muffler from a 4th gen sitting on standby just for that reason. Just gonna have to run a cutout and be happy with it. Although I'd rather run duals, I live in California so gotta keep the noise down as much as I can.
