Default Need help picking a heads and cam combo for a boosted LQ9

LQ9 is 9.5:1 compression with a forged bottom end. It will be a boosted high horsepower setup.

What would you guys recommend for heads and a cam? I'm wanting something with some lope. I will be running a 3000 stall converter in a 4L80E. Not sure about gearing.

It will be running 14-16 lbs of boost in a turbo setup.

I was looking at ported LS3s but some of my friends suggested there might be better choices for a boosted application.

Anyone use the Brian Tooley Racing (BTR) 0.617/0.595 lift 231/248 duration split, and 120-degree LSA cam?

There are a lot of choices out there. What turbo are you planning to run, and what are your power goals?

Twin 6262 turbos.

Builder wants to use LSA heads because of thicker deck and harder alloy but head porter prefers LS3 heads because they are easier to work with.

Looking for north of 850 rwhp.

850rwhp with either cylinder head isn't going to be a problem. I would recommend getting in touch with one of the vendors here to see what they recommend. Texas-Speed, LJMS, BTR, and Cam-Motion are just a few that can get you fixed up.

I was told the stock 317's with a good port job....Frankenstien Racing Heads and let them match the cam to the heads....cheap and even better...very effective.
That is the best set of heads to get for turbo set ups.

I don't blame porters on the LSA heads...the material is a lot harder so harder to grind/CNC/port.

Curious - did you get the intake "wings" knocked out or are you running them as-is? I know that these heads do not flow as well as LS3 heads due to this aspect.

The wings will be removed.
