Default Help me undestand cam timming

I'm installing a BTR stage 2 LS3 cam in my LS3 build.

BTR specs are, 225/238 .612"/.585" 113+3

Where does the +3 come into play?

The cam card from Comp Cams Says 110 ICL, installing dot to dot I get a ICL of 113, is this the +3?

Default +3* Advanced

Hi Troy, this is how I read the Card.

What I ask is an information request for your intended use ?
What is your intake valve weight ?

The C/L drop to 113 WILL increase engine torque at a HP LOSS OF A 116 C/L.

THEN the +3 Advance ?

You have the Hendrick head with BIG intake ports, good for Cup engines that REV to 9500.

The +3 is degrees of advance, which would mean the 110 ICL would be correct. If you're getting an ICL of 113 when the timing set is dot to dot, then obviously the timing is off.

This is where i'm confused.

When you say "+3 is deg of advance", what is advanced?

So, is it a 113 ICL advanced to 110 ICL?

Yeah, a cam with a 113 LSA and 0 advance would have an ICL and ECL of 113. When the cam is advanced 3 degrees, then the ICL becomes 110 and the ECL 116.

So, the Comp Cams card represents typical values in a cam grind. Duh!!

BTR is referring to a known grind that is advanced (or retarded) for a given application or maybe as the grind has evolved?

You can put your cam specs in this cam motion cam calculator.
