This is great. Changed oil today to prep for dyno time next week. Noticed oil was slow to drain well it's a bolt and not sure where it's from. Drove car earlier to get gas and warmbit up to drain oil quicker. Didn't act any different tha. Any other time. Now I gotta get the car into the shop to drop the oil pan and remove it. Appears to be an 8mm bolt any ideas?!

Checked all rocker arms, not motivated enough to remove the front cover yet, just going to have the shop take care of all that and do an under drive balancer

It's a 408 built by ERL Callie's rotating assembly wiseco Pistons.

Well it doesn't look like a rod bolt or main bolt. How long is the bolt, can you tell? The only thing I can think of is maybe something from the oil pump but hard to say without determining the length. If everything under the valve covers looks good than probably not from the top end.

Oil pickup tube bolt? Forget the size of that one....

Lifter tray, oil pump cover, and oil pickup tube bolts are 6mm. Cam gear, retainer plate, oil pump, and chain damper are all 8mm. Or it could be something that was ripped in on accident during assembly.

That's not an acting bolt if engine is running good no noise just push it in and lieve it there there's no way it can jump or be coat by the crank rods or any moving parts inside the motor

Maybe one of the bolts from shield that bolts above the sump in the oil pan.

It shouldn't be the cam retainer plate bolts, I am pretty sure those on Gen4 are the tappered ones and would easily fit through the drain plug hole. The lifter tray bolts that KCS recommended is another good idea as well.

My guess, after thinking about it some more, is either a random bolt fell into there, tho unlikely, or it has something to do with the oil pump mounting bolts, oil pump pickup tube bolt, cam gear bolts, or dampener bolts. Might be best to pull the front cover regardless.

I think the splash shield is held on by nuts that go on studs. Could be wrong tho, can't remember when I did my rebuild.

As far as length the mounting surface of the bolt in the picture is flush or really close to it on the inside of the pan in the picture. I know there are bolts on the shield around the pick up tube, since I removed the trays to clean the oil pan when it was apart. How long is thebpick up tube bolt?

KCS has it right, it's not an oil pickup tube bolt as those are 6mm. The windage tray hardware are all oblong nuts, unless maybe a stud came out and you really have a nut on a stud? Unlikely. Also not a lifter tray bolt as those are tiny. Not likely a cam retainer plate as that would have made a racket IF it could come out behind the timing gear. How long has the motor been together?

I don't know if it's just the picture, but doesn't look like a LS factory bolt. The factory bolts are very light grey that looks like a yellow zinc. The pump pick up has a blunt nose and the windage tray are studs from the main caps. The oil pump bolts are too close to the cover to come out. If anything a cam sprocket bolt.
