Default HELP.. Pick a Cam for 403 Build

Putting together a stroker LS2. First I did a search on here for professionals for a custom cam. I contacted a couple people and got very different results. Looking towards other peoples advice or opinions on what might be the best option.

How would each cam perform etc. This is my first motor build, cam upgrade, etc. and I'm lost in the woods. Just want to spend good money right the first time.

I'm wanting to be able to hammer the car at the track with good results yet have decent street manners. I am aiming for something close to 500 whp but rather have something that has great torque and performs really well.

Car will be mostly street driven with as many track days as I can afford.

Here is what I got quoted out for cam specs.

Cam #1 240/254 .629/.612 113+4
Cam #2 229/244 .615"/.595" 113+4

Build:

Wiseco K464X05 LS2 pistons has a -3cc valve relief
Unported LSA heads with bronze guides and stainless valves
Trunion upgrade
Hoping to yeild 11:1 compression
Main and Head Studs
Ported LS3 FI intake stock injectors with a 102mm TB

Car is a 1987 Third Gen Camaro – Full weight 3600 Pounds (ish)
4:10 gears – hybrid 8.8
Stage 2 T56
Monster Stage 2 clutch

Thanks for the help!

Cam 1 is going to be a little on the radical side, but Cam 2 should be a nice street cam. I'd lean more towards Cam 2 based on your goals. Cam 1 is very close to what I have going in my 440ci engine w/ unported L92 heads.

What kind of power are you putting down? How is the idle.. I would like an aggressive sounding car.

These are two radically different cams.

And if it's a choice of JUST these two cams, for what you're wanting I would also recommend cam #2.

FYI.....the Lingenfelter cam in my '95 Impala is 229*/241*, 114* + 0* LSA and puts down 450HP and 400TQ to the wheels....with mid-length (really, they're closer to shorties) headers and a 2 1/2" exhaust.

I figure that if cam #2 was in my car with long-tube headers, the numbers would be closer to 475HP and 430TQ to the wheels. And that's in a stock displacement LS3.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the input. I'm really hoping for something closer to 500 rwhp. I'm not set on these two cams, just what two companies spec'd out for me. I'm already way over budget on the build, just want to be happy the first time.

Understand Jake, that my engine is a 376ci where-as yours will be a 403ci.

Also, mine is stockish compression......slightly over 10.7:1 due to a thinner head gasket, where-as you'll be bumping up to a slightly higher compression ratio.

Finally, my car has a 4L60E tranny while yours is a manual.

All things considered, I would not be surprised if you were in the 490 to 510 HP range and right around 450 to 460 LB/FT TQ.......to the wheels.

The only thing that would hold you back to any degree would be the unported heads......and they may not be that much of a handicap.

BTW.....if you wouldn't mind giving up some torque for additional HP, you could always have the cam ground on a 113* + 2* LSA instead of +4*. I wouldn't do it.....but it is an option.
