1st LS swap just picked up an L77
What's up all! 1st thread here, I just bought an all aluminum L77 with 6L80 Trans out of a wrecked 2013 caprice PPV w/ 40K MILES, going to be my 1st LS build always been a fan of them and would like advice/extra knowledge. So the L77 is a 6.0, wit rectangular intake ports in the heads already, would doing an L92 head swap be worth my wild or just stick with what I have? Will any Chevrolet performance Hot cam for an LS2 be worth putting in? I will be deleting the DOD/AFM, I would like a mid 400hp and torque as these have 355hp and 384lbs of torque, and I don't want to go overboard money wise, and how wold I run a 6L80 in an older car? I've noticed almost every one doing swaps uses 4l60s I want the extra gearing...all advice and knowledge would be great thanks all in advanced

Pretty sure you need a painless harness and the factory computer to run the engine/trans and some custom tuning as well. You should check out the conversions/hybrids section where lotsa dudes are doing similar swaps
As for the cam; I'd call Geoff at EPS for his cute little 214/232. Would really wake that engine up

The L77 has the L92 heads allready..
I would look at Speartech for harness/controller... pricy but worth it, if you have the stock harness and ecm they can work on that ( IIRC )
I would use the vvt and get a custom vvt cam and phaser limiter

I did get the harness and computer with it, but I want to run a carb and controller instead of MPFI, or maybe running Holleys Sniper efi, I just want to make sure I'm buying the right stuff, I'd really like to use the 6 speed maybe I'll get the pcm flashed

For the power you want, you'll need a cam that will require an aftermarket torque converter......something around 3000 stall would be ideal for your Roady.
You're gonna need a custom crossmember as well as doing to modification to the floorboard to get the 6L80 to fit.
You'll need B-body engine mounts for the LS engine.
Swap the rear gears to 3.42's or 3.73's. The stock Roady gears just won't cut the mustard.
B-body headers and cats for the LS engine.
As for cam....and as a frame of reference, I have a Lingenfelter GT1-1 cam and I put down 450HP and 402TQ to the wheels
(229*/242*, 114*+0).....it's my daily driver and had been great!
Also......I'd do a rebuild on the engine before I'd install it in my car.....but that's just me!

One good point (of VERY few) for living in California- Any emission-controlled vehicle, originally injected, would be prohibited from wearing a carburetor. What a huge step BACKWARDS! To give up the power, drivability, and fuel economy of injection is foolhardy, especially if the engine already has it when purchased.

would that be cheaper going thru a vendor? I have a budget and i really don't want to go over it, LS2 cams are pretty cheap already

The 2001-04 LS1 cam was the best for overall torque and even the LS3,6,7,9 cams were all more stable than the LS2 and they were even using Comp 915 aftermarket springs as well.
So yeah, pretty much what everyone is saying; find even a good used aftermarket cam if possible. There was a Lingenfelter GT2-3 for 250 in the classifieds recently(few days ago)

In the magazine article where they tested all the factory GM cams in a stock 5.3 engine; for what ever reason the LS2 was thee absolute WORST, as far as rpm capability. They said it just wreaked havoc on the valve springs from a stability standpoint

okay awesome I'll look thru the classifieds and check out some vendors and see what i can come up with, do you have any Valve spring suggestions? What about head gaskets
