Default 6.1 Hemi Vs Production Ls2 Should we worry

Hi: Just saw a new Charger coming out of a Chrysler headquaters building. The rumor is they are rated at 425 HP and zero to 60 in 5.0, 13 flat in the qtr. Don't know if this was an auto or stick? The really bad news is they are coming out with a police package. Can't have that now can we? What do you guys think will Chevrolet retaliate and add a more agressive cam and a better intake to raise the power output to be equal or better than the Hemi?

In the truck forum we have to deal with the HEMI often as it is the most powerful V8 offered in the Ram. The HEMI is a very difficult motor to mod, in that the computer DOES NOT respond to modifications. So the good news is that you can tune away on your LSx motor and the HEMI wont get much better until the aftermarket gets going for Mopar. But Mopar has never been strong on the aftermarket.

Stock for stock a 4.8 will be a good match for a HEMI.

The 5.7 will come with 350hp this year, and its not overrated.

The 6.1 will be 425hp.

If you take off torque management, most 5.7's would run low 13's in the cars and cut a huge chunk off of the 5.7 in the trucks.

Dyno's have shown the 6.1L Hemi putting down 360rwhp through the 5 Spd Auto.

The new 6.0L Dodge seems to be putting down good numbers. But until the Mopar aftermarket (which is notoriously old school) starts R&D, I wouldn't worry.

Yes. The biggest problem is the ETC tying into the PCM, eliminate that and things get alot easier.

It was the first real part out for the 5.7's, HotRod shops sold them for people putting 5.7's in older street rods.

That is the only real complaint I have with my 03 Hemi Ram. I wonder if that fixes the slow *** throttle response and downshifts.

The cals did get better, the dealer might offer a better one. I know what you mean and none of the Durango's or newer Rams have that, its all in the cal.

Plus, try this. Hold down the pedal, turn it ON, leave it for 3 seconds, then turn it off and let up the pedal. Turn it to ON again, wait 3 seconds and start the truck.

even if the charger has more power, i would be willing to bet that the vette is a lot lighter than it, which will more than make up for the power difference. besides, the new vette still looks a lot better than the charger, even considering the fixed headlights

I'm not bias to either one, but your comparing a 4door sedan to a sports car. Apples to oranges. I would think a supercharged monte carlo and charger would be a better comparison.

The 300C/SRT-8 and Charger RT/SRT-8 both weigh in very close to 4000lbs so they're not really much to worry about. I know the 300C SRT-8 runs right around a 13.3 @ 108, so they're competition for stock LS1s. They LS2 powered cars aren't going to have much competition. Now if they decide to put the 6.1 Hemi in a car that weighs less than 3500lbs., then that will be a whole different situation.

The SRT8's all come with a 5spd auto and 3.08 Final drive ratio. Change that Ratio is a 3.73 or 3.90 and watch out.

It should cause the ETC to relearn itself.

There was a 300/SRT8 at Route 66 drag way a couple of weeks ago. It was running 13.2s at 108MPH.

Thanks for the Info Andrew, so I was in the ballpark. I agree with the replies that the Charger will be no match for and LS2 or LS7 Vette. But a stock Ls1 Fbody or Ls2 GTO it will be a close match. With just a set of 3:73's I think it will be a GTO Killer in stock form. With the stock 3.08's I wonder what the estimate top end is 160-170? I know that the Hemi heads flow well at Higher Rpm's. If CHP gets a hold of the police version I bet we will not see many more high speed chases. What are we going to do now for entertainment? I guess if I were to buy a new GTO I would have to start modifying it right a way?
