As new as possible, maybe even a crate motor. Is computer, harness, and transmission compatible? Thanks for the reply.

Yes, it'll be a direct swap. For more info on those swaps check out the truck section of LS1tech; Performance Trucks.net

Do a search and you'll find a ton of more in depth info on similar swaps.

I talked to a dealer to try to find a ls2 crate motor, they are saying that my 99 silverado with the 4.8 will only take the 5.3 as a swap, and that the ls2 is not compatible. i do have a programmer and a place that dyno-tuned my 4.8. The only problem i see would be the computer but that can be adjusted for the new motor. Has anyone made this kind of motor change and was there any problems.

Yes, you can run an LS2 in your truck. There are obsticles though. Ask the dealer if the LS2 crate motor now comes with a 58x reluctor wheel on the crank (and 4x cam trigger sprocket). If not then the motor will have the 24x reluctor wheel which would save you alot of time/money. Assuming the motor has the 24x reluctor wheel then you will need a cam sensor extension harness and a knock sensor relocation harness both of which are available through LS1Tech vendors. You will tap the LS2 block for your existing knock sensors and reuse them. Swap over the oil pan/pickup/windage tray, entire accessory drive... including the harmonic balancer. If you use the LS2 intake manifold you will need to obtain a 90mm cable throttle body. I forget if you can use the LS2 water pump with a cable throttle body and the trucks different accessory drive position. Maybe someone will chime in and clarify that. You will need LS2 injector pigtails. Your fuel system is return style, correct? If so, IMO the easiest thing to do there is to buy aftermarket LS2 fuel rails, fuel pressure regulator, and adapt those items to your existing fuel delivery/return. Don't know if your stock fuel pump will supply enough fuel for the LS2 but there are aftermarket pumps that will. Fuel vapor return will require minor mods if using the LS2 intake manifold. Yes, most definitely the LS2 will require tuning. In what condition is the rest of the drivetrain? What exhaust are you running or plan on running?

As of right now I am running a dynomax exhaust. I am going to install headers when I decide what motor is going to be used in the truck. Also I am going to install a VaraRam filter kit and new mass air flow sensor. I called summit racing about motors, and the 6.0 truck motor is about 3300 dollars and puts out 330 HP. But with a cam and a few mods shoud put out more than 400 HP. On the other hand the 6.0 LS2 motor is about 6700 dollars, and puts out 400HP. I might go with the truck motor and add about 1500 dollars in mods and still come out a lot cheaper with more HP. Any suggestions?
