Default Opinions on using 20-50 oil in 427 stroker

What are your opinions on this? My oil burning is getting alittle better but it still burns oil. I am using the 15-40 right now but thought of changing to 20-50 for about 1000 miles to see if this is any better. Throw your ideas at me. Also, how much oil should it hold with a K&N hp2006 filter (the longer one). I am thinking 6.5 but not sure. I think my dip stick might be bent or something and not reading 100% correctly. So when I change the oil I want to fill the filter up and put the rest in the crankcase and make a new mark on my dipstick. Thanks for the help guys.

It won't hurt to try in the warm months but it sounds like you really have a sig. oil consumption problem being caused by something not right interally with your motor. Don't get your hopes too high that this is going to help you out much and best of luck to you as this type of stuff is very frustrating.

Holy run-on sentence Batman!

Seriously, a lot of people use 20-50. I don't know if it'll make a big difference though. How much oil is it burning?

Take off your first oil filter and drain it upside down over night then cut it in half with tin snips and see what you find.
As far as running heavier oil the Mobil 1 15- 50 should be good. We run EOS with the 15-50 for track days. The after market tolerances tend to be a little looser so the heavier oil is fine.

Thanks for the info guys. How about the amount this thing should hold with that K & N filter?
