Default 4.200 head gasket for LSX Block

Currently, I've been told that the largest bore you can run on a LSX block is a 4.185 due to no one making a head gasket larger than this bore size. Is someone in the process of making a head gasket with 4.200 & 4.250 bores? I am sure other people would like to know this as well.

Cutting a gasket with a big bore is not difficult. However, when you have 4.40" bore spacing, you literally run out of room between cylinders with a gasket cut that large. Simple math: 4.40-4.20 =0.20" of gasket to seal between cylinders. You might as well seal it off with a bead of RTV silicone and hope for the best!

IMO, GM screwed up a bit when they advertised a max bore of 4.250" on these blocks. Although it sounds like alot of fun, you run into more issues than it's worth in the end.

Cometic has a 4.210" which is the biggest you would want to go anyway. But I woudn't consider anything bigger then a 4.185" bore for long term issues.

Like Matt said..why GM claims 4.250" bore is odd.

If GM screwed up in advertising a max bore of 4.250" on a 4.40" bore spacing, what then are we to make of claims that Darton dry sleeves can handle a 4.190" bore and that MID sleeves can handle a 4.200" bore?

It's not a misprint on either side. You can do it. However, the LSX claims 4.250", not 4.200". You just won't have alot of gasket area between the cylinders and the motor may chew head gaskets for lunch. In the end, it's up to you how often you want to work on something.
