Default Help! oil temperature too high!

I have a problem in my 2006 C6 A6 with the oil temperature. When I'm driving normally it's around 90c to 100c (194F - 212F) but after a race or two it goes up to 115c (239F) last night was a busy night and i had some street action and it reached 127c (260F) !! I'm sure this isn't normal, I'm starting to worry. Anyone had the same problem? Help anyone!

I've seen 240F with some spirited driving. Oil temp should been higher than coolant temp once warmed up.

Not a problem with a good synthetic oil. If it goes above 280, consider adding an external cooler (standard equipment on our road race cars).

Mikey is right on the money. I get 240 - 260 in my V routinely. As a matter of fact, you should make sure your oil temp gets into the 220 range frequently to boil off any water based contaminants...

If you run a crappy oil, it will start breaking down. A good synthetic oil should be able to handle that no problem...

Is there any harm if the oil temperature is high (around 212 to 220) most of the time? and does it affect the car's performance?

Is there a cooler designed specially to cool the oil temperature? And is it easy to install? Where can i find it?

There are all sorts of options for cooling the oil...just search "oil cooler" and go from there (Jegs and Summit carry them, along with lots of other places). Ease of install depends on your definition of ease of install...you'll have to use an adapter of some sort, and run the extra lines necessary.

A good source for this information is frrax.com. Those guys use oil coolers all the time...

As of right now I wouldn't worry about your oil temps. your 212-220 is normal. A good synthetic can handle 300.

239 is not a problem. 250-260 is what is recommended for max safe temp.

Yes the Oil can take low 300s and internal moving parts upper 200s for short periods of time. Oil even a great synthetic degrades at high temps.
