i have my motor out of the car and al lthe oil drained out of it. can i rotate the motor upside down to keep the lifters in place when doing the cam. would that work, it just saves me the hassle of getting the special tool.

Yes that would work just fine. Actually a good idea. Every time I have had to do a cam swap it was always in the car and did not have that option. Just don't forget snd flip the motor back up right without the cam in her. That could suck.
