Default ls1 to ls2 block conversion

I am considering switching blocks because my ls1 has alot of miles on it. I was wondering if all my stuff from my LS1 would fit on the LS2 block (heads, intake, headers, acessories). Until I can upgrade this stuff. Are the blocks the same with just different bores strokes etc... ? or different all around. I was looking at texas-speed and they have the block, and the rotating assembly fo bout $2800. I was planning on keeping the same cam too. Thanks

Yes all that stuff fits. You need LS2 front timing cover and LS2 valley cover tho, also LS2 lifter trays.

Mostly the same, just a bigger bore 4.00. Stroke is the same. Cam sensor and knock sensors have moved.

LS1 cams will work in LS2.....but you need a 2005 LS2 cam gear to bolt on the front of the cam.

Yep go to SDPC. Oh and check for wear on the old cam before you install it. You might just want a new one.

Why not just go with a 408 and swap it all over direct? 75lbs difference in the block you will never feel in the car. The 402 block is more money and then you have to get the cover kit. The 408 is more durable as well

pm me if someone wants help with making the right choices

.

Lifter Trays? Are you absolutely sure?
I'm swaping the LS1 to LS2 right now and I'm ready to drop the engine in. I used my 2004 LS1 lifter trays as well as lifters. Someone please confirm this either way.

Thanks, -D

You might be OK because yours was a late LS1, there was some issue about earlier LS1's and their lifter trays not fitting into LS2's. I think it was to do with the notches in the sides of the old LS1 trays not lining up with the LS2 shapes in the lifter valley.
That said $20 for a new set of LS2 trays is not bad.

LS2

Yep, you are correct! Thank You!

In case anyone is wondering or searching. My 2004 LS1 (GTO) has the newer LS2 style Lifter Tray. Only difference is a slightly larger pushrod hole and the notch for the block.
