Default A day at the Race track.. wait.. can this be true??

Turns out, a guy that 2 weeks ago bought my 99 hardtail 225 inch dragster races for Indiana University ( them being one of his and his crews main sponsers) He mentioned to my dad an i that he was going to be out at national trails for the Lucas NHRA event this weekend.. I ran into him, and didnt realize that his super comp dragster (8.90 index) was supporting a ls7 (Gm crate motor- stock cam-stockheads, everything stock except the tb) Really cool to see. He was the only one to be doing this in his class, 890 index- dragster ran 8.90 at 154mph.. stock 505hp.. hopefully u guys enjoy.. not everyday do you get to see a rear engine dragster with a ls7!

Let me know what you guys think!

Very cool. I love the machine work that went into the throttle linkage.

Looks like custom throttle linkage. Very nice. Can you really call it drag racing when they use a throttle stop at the start line to slow themselves down and then hit the brakes at the finish line to keep from breaking out?

Okay, how about some clarification? The dragster in the pictures is OWNED by (not sponsored by) Indiana State University.
The driver at the division race in Columbus is one of four student drivers of Team Sycamore Racing, a student entity of Indiana State University. That's right, students learn the business of racing through a motorsports management minor and get a bachelor's degree in their field of choice. Automotive Technology Management, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Marketing, Business, and Communications are just a few of the degree programs available.
Now, talk about cool -- working the business of motorsports with a new LS-7 engine in a SuperComp dragster and get a four year degree!! That's cool!

Pretty amazing he bought the car 2 weeks ago as I saw them run that exact car at the Norwalk race June 26th...over a month ago.

Story of their program.

I guess i could have asked my dad about what the comp dragster was all about- but didnt really figure it was a big deal.. I didnt even talk to the student that drives for the ISU till i seen him from the track- he had just bought a hard tail dragster from me.. ya id say its really cool to see an ls7 in a dragster..

If u would have heard what i had said- i had sold him a 99 hard tail dragster- ( that he owns himself) and he races the car that ISU owns- which is the spitzer 91 hardtail dragster that you see in the picture.. So he races on for school- and just bout his own hardtail dragster... see?? Yup - he races at all the Lucas Oil NHRA events with the car pictured with the ls7 motor.. - paid in full from ISU..

If a guy has a dragster with something bigger than a decently built 540" and can only run 8.90's, then something is wrong with his car. To succesfully run S/C you need a car that runs faster than the index it's runnng on. I ran a 572" BBC in a 235" 4 Link car (not nearly as light as the hard tail) and ran deep in the 7's at 180+.

Now, I definitely think that is a cool idea what was done. His car has got to be light as hell though. I have always toyed with the idea of doing something similar, a LSX based motor with a Procharger in the dragster....but when all was said and done it makes more sense (and is cheaper) to run the 572.
