Default damaged block???????/HELP

i just got a LS7 and i noticed a chip in the block. i am worried about it. im not sure if the damage will affect the performance of the motor.

the damage is a chip in the groove where you would bolt up crank. i have a pic of a normal one and the damaged one. i just wanna know if the block is gonna be useless or if i will have problems in the future thanks alot.

the first one i think is the good one as you can tell. thanks for the help

I'd have been pissed, too!!!
You'll still have plenty of clamping area and that small missing piece shouldn't affect bearing crush.

Where did you buy the block?

It looks like that is the main with the thrust bearing. If so the bearing wraps around for the trust area as well as the main bearing. After you install the bearing you won't see it. Also the bearing has a lot of support so it should not be a problem Normally you want as much bearing contact with the main saddle to dissapate heat. Since this appears to be the thrust there is a lot of contact with that bearing.

If it's going to keep you awake at night with worry then get it exchanged. It's not worth the agony. Me, I would run it.

It'll be fine, just make sure that it doesn't have any sharp edges that could effect thrust or start a crack.

Your not just gonna slap some bearings in it and go are you??? Send it to the machine shop, have the mains align honed along with the cylinder and cam journal clean up.

Dont EVER take ANYONES word that somethings been done right. Also, let the machine shop take care of the nick. the last thing you need to do is get in there on the mains and start filing away.

1500 bucks was a great price. Provided everything else checks out, your all good..

^^^^What he said. Take it to a GOOD machine shop. Check and correct the align bore first. On the cylinder ware, have him see how much needs to be honed from the cylinders to clean them up. Standard machine shop pratices should get you going. That's a very good buy. Congrats.

That's the factory tang notch found on LS7 blocks. It's not a defect.

LSX blocks are the same way.

Exactly.

......and it's damn funny how the "EXPERT" told you to you to "Send it to the machine shop, have the mains align honed along with the cylinder and cam journal clean up"
