Default LS1/LS2 price diff?

I was just curious as to why the LS1/LS6 blocks are more than the LS2 blocks. Is the price reflective of block superiority? I was always under the impression that the LS2 block was a better, updated design. Any ideas?

Yeah. I am told that the LS1 block design is superior. I am also told it was the basis for the LS7. At least if I am wrong you will get more responses.

they make a **** load more ls2 blocks then ls1/ls6 blocks.the ls2 is still being installed in cars & trucks around the world 2 this day,and the ls1/ls6 blocks are being sold to people who just need a new block for their old car or truck.

Not quite - LS1 lead to the LS6 block, which lead to the C5R block. then LS7r block and LS7 and yes the LS2 blocks are off shoots of the C5R block.

Small things were learned on each step.

and yes there are a chit load of LS2 blocks made over the out dated LS1 block and older LS6 blocks. Plus the LS2 block is a much better design for stregth, oiling and cooling. not to mention the extra cubes

the LS6 has far better oiling and cooling gallies, better head bolt holes and several other things over the LS1 block. and the LS2 is much better then the LS6.

Some ppl still want to hang onto the LS1 name.

I have to ask where are you looking at prices??? Texas Speed has ls1 blocks at $999 and ls2 blocks at $1099 but the iron block which is an lq4 or something is only $749 which is not an ls2.

I have been looking at Scoggin-Dickey. They advertise the LS1/LS6 for $1295 and the LS2 for $999. The L92 is offered at $1399. This was the least expensive I have seen for these blocks.

Go with the LS2, its worth it just in the addition of cubic inches IMO.

This may seem like a newb. question, but I think my LS1 bottom end is going to go at some time. If I put in an LS2 short block instead, and used my LS1 heads/cam will it fit?
