Default Gen III/IV springs in Gen V?

Hey guys, haven't had much luck browsing around looking for info on this, but are the springs the same from one gen to another? I know the lifters are...

the springs can be used from the previous generation engines, however installed height must be verified.

As in they need to be shimmed up? Or...

I checked older gen installed heights VS. the LT-based installed height, the older gens are a tad shorter... This, I'm assuming, would effectively lower the spring pressure without a shim... am I wrong in thinking that?

I'd have to look up the installed heights but basically you'd just check the installed height of the stock head and then check the spring you intend to install and go from there.
