Default Piston ring issues? Bulletin?

From what I was told over a year ago, these new engines have thinner than normal rings and to expect issues. Sure enough, my friends '14 began to have compression issues. The dealership replaced the pistons and rings and went with an "updated thicker ring". But I guess it is still thinner than the common formula.

Anyone know anything about this?

The LT1 uses the same ring pack as the LS3 - the only bulletin I see pertains to oil consumption caused by either the PCV system or the AFM pressure relief valve.

This is a 5.3.

What's the engine code? There's three different 5.3L engines in 2014 - LY5, L83, LMF

Whatever is in the 1500. I'm assuming L83.

Both the LY5 and L83 come in the 1500 for that year, the L83 is an aluminum block vs. cast iron for the LY5...

This TSB applies to both...

No TSBs for either that talk about low compression due to the ring pack sizing.

I know this is a few months old, but the 2014 and newer 1500's only had one engine option for the 5.3 which is the Gen 5 L83, the Gen 4 LY5 was used in the previous body style 2007.5-2013 and the LMF was only used in vans from 2010-2014. The LT1 was a 6.2 used in the new stingray and 2016 and newer Camaro. I can also assure you the LT1 does NOT use the same rings as the LS3, the LT1 is a completely different engine than the LS3. I do not know where you got your information machinistone.
