Default Any headers that don't require tune...?

Just wondering if anyone has a lead on this. Looking for long tubes with no cats!

No headers require a tune.

The only reason people recommend getting a tune with headers is to eliminate any codes you may be getting and to maximize the performance gained from said headers.

But in no way do headers, even long tubes, absolutely require a tune. You can put headers on the stock tune and it being so conservative it will be ok to drive even hard. Although you won't get the full power that you can out of those headers and you most likely will have a CEL on your dash every time you start the car.

Wow -- I did not know that! But will it still make more power than stock?

It will of course, because you are still eliminating the restriction and benefiting from exhaust gas scavenging.

Although like I said, an optimized tune improves those numbers. So for example, untuned headers may get you 20rwhp on their own and then if you tune it you may get another 10rwhp for a total gain of 30.

Those are just rough numbers, but you get the idea.

If you are on a stock tune now adding long tubes will net more power but will not be ideal. The difference between a stock tune/stock motor to motor with headers/aftermarket tune can easily be 30-40rwhp.

You can certainly do it as the stock tune usually runs rich at WOT. But a tune would make the money spent on the headers much more worth it.

A stock C7 vette made 23whp/22rwtq from a tune only....
