Default 6 vs 8 Crankshaft Counterweights

The LT5 had 8 counterweights as does the Coyote and some of the older 4V mod motors. None of the current GM or Chrysler V8's have 8 counterweights. (To my knowledge...)

Any downside of running a crankshaft with only 6 counterweights on the crank vs 8? I heard its a cost thing and the center counterweights aren't really needed unless the engine is seeing high rpm.

Default

Cost, cost of balancing, weight, harmonics, and complexity. CCW makes sense for a flat plane crank, but for 99.5% of ls setups is just added weight and cost.
