Default How quick are the GTOs?

I read in the 7-2002 MTrend that the LS1 in the GTO/Monaro was rated at 302 HP and the weight was just over 3,600 lbs. They also "estimated" that it'd do the 1/4 in the high 14s at 98ish. Does this seem right? Is this par w/ the Holdens?

GTOs are fat bastards (1670kg) mine pulled 14.1@98s tonight pretty much stock. HSV rate them at 13.9

ARE superstroker just landed so good buy 14s

further with some good driving, cam and some gret tuning guys like Plan B and others are running 110mph passes on similar weight Holdens

It predicted a run of 14.9, which would give it a great view of a GTP's back end. If this is supposed to "replace" the f-body, i would hope it is at least close to the model it replaces in straight line performance. I would hate to become the laughing stock of all of those mustang drivers/import drivers/a lot of other people.

I think they meant 320 hp...that seemed like a typo, because wasn't the stock LS1 crate motor always rated at 320hp and thats whats in the vettes...they will go 13.9's all day most likely stock...but I'm sure the mods are going to come out big time for them just like they did for the F-body, most of the stuff thats out now you can put on...I'm sure there will have to be special things for the air intake though..

I was just surprised at how the magazine's times were. I know at 3,600 lbs (assumed w/o driver and test equipment) it's about as fat as my LT1, and about 125 pounds heavier than the LS1. With a 98mph trap, which is decent for bone-stock (but I don't know what eleveation this was run) I expected low 14s, not high ones. I saw the autos come with a 3.08 rear (not sure if they offer an optional one or not) so maybe they tested the auto? A pretty cool car, but for mid-$30s I was hoping it'd be a bit quicker. For mid-$30s, I'd probably swing to a Cobra.

40 foot above sea level is where the car registered 14.1 second 1/4 mile.

I reckon 110 rocks. What would happen if I lost 800lb and got traction?

Also read the post about the possible gas guzzler tax. Bob Lutz has stated he'd like to see at least 350 hp and a lot of low-end torque for the Pontiac GTO because American performance drivers need that tire frying power.
Sounds good to me . I just don't like the price. Maybe when the Formula is paid off, I will earn just enough to squeek in a $32K car. We'll see.

WHO CARES what numbers the "car rags" rate it at! FINALLY! It's a "LS1 2 door coupe with rear wheel drive and 2 REAL back seats in a GTO package" You can be sure people will be modding this car for 12s. I'm sure the Aussie chaps who post here already know the cars potential! What's best about the the Holden comming to America is that we finally get an excellent platform to start. The last real big V8 RWD car that GM made was the 96 Impalas SS.

I first knew about the Commadore back in 98 during a visit to Sydney. I gravitated to the Commadore SS models. I told myself, that would be the car I'd own if I lived there. Upon further research I soon found out that Holden is subsidiary of GM. I was shock that Australia and some parts of the Middle east get one of the baddest sedan GM makes and won't ship it here!? Now I'm just glad I don't have to move out of the country now to get one!

Plus my family will thank me for buying a true real world family car. I'll always enjoy the F-bodies cars but frankly the F-bodys aren't really design to seat 4 people. The GTO will also bridge the gap between the ol' timers who knew what a GTO was all about and still have a sensible street performer that you can seat your family in without complaints about who's gonna sit in the back! The only problem now is how much will it cost and how many will be produced. I imagine it'll be a huge demand and a very long long waiting list! Either way I'll be getting one!

Best of both worlds! No pun intended!

Now if FORD would only ship there Aussie V8 RWD car to the US to compete instead of the oversized 2003 Lincoln Murader.
