Would it be totally insane to do the Long Haul on a motorcycle?

Default Would it be totally insane to do the Long Haul on a motorcycle?

Hey guys,

So im planning on doing the Power Tour again this year, as I had the black 2001 SS that was always camped outside the Royal Purple tent the previous year. Now, at this time I still plan to take the Camaro, but I recently had the crazy idea to try to do the entire tour on my Harley Davidson 883 Sportster.
This is by no means one of the big bikes, and I would probably have to stop and refuel every 100 miles or so... plus I would be coming in from Texas, going to Florida, then crossing up to New jersey and then I would have to go back down to Texas. However, i think i would do it just because it would be the craziest, most harcore thing to do.

What do you guys think? Good idea? Bad Idea? Suicidal? Plus, I've never been on the east coast before so this would be really interesting for me.

Doing that long haul on a sporty would be suicide. I had a 2002 FXSTI (softail standard) and couldn't stay on it longer than 2 1/2 hours.

If you took a sporty on that long of a ride you would be a true iron man.

You'ld really appreciate a road king for the Power Tour.

To date, I've done maybe 2 hours at once.

Id figure this would would probably be the best way to break the bike in and get used to the long hauls.

Default Take the Camaro

I used to ride all over the USA on a variety of motorcycles. The most I did in one day was 865 miles on a Gold Wing. I also did 804 on a Road King, but that was especially easy part of it was Hwy 50 across Nevada (I think) at over 100mph! (you had to watch for large animals on the road!!!).

All that was in my 30s, and 40s. I am now 50 and have had THREE back fusions! Believe me, if I had known I was going to have major joint deteriation (a rare condition that started when I was a teen) I would have stayed off motorcycles all together. Ah hell, I doubt it!

Having said all that, THERE IS NO BETTER WAY TO SEE THIS GREAT USA then on a bike! But, a Sportster? ARE YOU NUTS? Or all guts?

Take the Camaro and flag down the red 2005 Corvette with dark wheels and a VERY LOUD exhaust, I'll buy you a beer.

holy crap, I'm not man enough to do that long as haul on a Sportster. We have an '06 883 Custom (wife's bike) and it rides more rough than my Fat Boy.

Its like riding three power tours for us Texans though. Here to FL, FL to NJ, and NJ to TX

I'd take the Camaro
