Default Power Tour Help - importing a car

OK guys, I'm threatening to bring my Ultima GTR over from Hong Kong for the Power Tour. If I do, I'll leave it in the USA for a few months and come and do some other shows etc.... but first Ive gotta work out how to do this:

Ive spoken to a shipping agent and Im waiting for some answers, in the meantime. Do any of you guys know anyone that has actually temporarily imported a car to the USA for personal use like this. (I need to hear from experience, not opinions.)

Customs and Tax
That should be OK, I can get a carne de passage which will get around the tax issues http://www.export911.com/e911/export/ata.htm

Licencing
The car is right hand drive. Will I have to get any inspections done.

well, due to the nature of the car in the US, u might be able to get it inspected as a kit car, but idk for sure. thats how they are legalized here. sold as a chassis, and u get a shop to put in the engine. idk if it will work for importing a full car, but its an avenue to look into. hopefully ill see u on the tour

How does it work if someone wants to drive a car from Canada into the USA? Do they drive on Canadian plates?

yeah, they just go through the boarder check. and then they are in. I never had any problems coming or going accross the boarder. but then again I am not in an Ultima GTR.

I know I've read in HR before that others have done this. Here's a link where it may be easier to find your answers and get definitive information. Good luck and post up some pics in this thread! Jim

Already posted there - got some replies on the customs, that looks OK.... its the registration that I am worried about.

I imagine the plates are issued by each state, so how would I go about registering the vehicle for temporary use? Surely there must be some sort of permit required??

i would recommend joining forums for really high end cars like lambos and ferraris. i'd think it is likely that more guys on there might have personal experience with doing this. good luck and i hope to see that awesome car on the tour!!
