turbo ls1 fairmont wins daily driver at dragweek 07
woohoo, what a fun day yesterday, what fun week.
our goal for the week was to finish and to go for quickest daily driver. well we finished the 1100 mile trip and made over 50 passes for the week. there was not one single issue with the car all week. we never so much as pulled a plug or even had to add oil to the thing. just pull the junk out of it and change the tire pressure.
next goal was to have the quickest daily driver. they wouldn't let you run faster than 10.80 in this class so we were trying to dial in that number all week without going faster. we ended up with a 10.83 average and got that award by just a few thousands over the next guy.
then came the bracket race at the end. it was a 32 car field. i was driving kyles(1320video's) vette all week since he was filming and the fairmonts codriver john was driving the fairmont all week. i made the 32 car field with kyles vette running an average 12.66 for the week. both cars made it thru the first round. both cars made it thru the 2nd round. then we ended up matching up against each other in the 3rd round. :-).
john was cutting consistant .0x lights on a 400 pro tree all week and did the same against me. i was geting .2x lights in the vette. he had no problem running up to just in front of me and holding me off for the win. i was real happy to make the 3rd round and lossing against our own car made it great.
john killed the 4th round guy. probably had him coverd by the 330 mark. the finial round guy was good. .05 light and very consistant. we should have lost that finial round but the other guy broke out by .002. woohoo!!!! 3 years at drag week and 3 wins. we didn't think we had a shot at the bracket race but somehow we got lucky, again...
in case you dont know the car is a low budget boosted 5.3 in a fairmont. motor is stock other than a used zo6 cam and springs, megasquirt. cheap mp70 turbo, th400 with a brake.

Yep, that Fairmont is an inspiration for sure. Best vids I've seen in ages.
Hopefully when some parts arrive in the UK I'll be having a go at something similar too.
