A Cobra Guy here... IM BETTER THAN ALL OF YOU...
Now that I've got your attention, lol!!! Of course, I don't really think that I'm better than ANY of you, I just wanted you guys to open and read my intro..
So I'm sorry if anyone got offended, lol!!!
Well, for starters, I own a 2001 Cobra. In the cosmetics department, it's got an 03/04 Cobra front bumper, carbon fiber hood, and rear bumper...
As for engine mods: It is a 5.1L stroker engine (oliver billet rods, forged probe pistons, CHP stroker crank), with ported 03 cobra heads, sean hyland cams...
My power adder: 3.4L whipple at 23 psi...
On a break in tune (10.6 AFR, 12 degrees of timing), it put down 670/680 to the tires, and unfortunately never received it's real tune before it popped...
Here are some pics of the Cobra:
Okay, as I mentioned, my motor is no longer good. I suffered severe detonation in cylinder 4, which ended up costing me a piston... Nothing tune related...
Ford's are mainly tuned by MAF, not by MAP... So I ended up blowing off my pcv line from the crank pressure created by the extreme boost. When that line blew, the supercharger started sucking air through that line. Well the air being sucked through that line, was obviously not being read by the MAF sensor, so the injectors were not supplying the needed fuel... Hence the massive detonation which led to my engine failure...
Anyways, so what the heck am I doing on LS1 tech? Well, I am going a completely different route, in my neverending quest to be unique...
We are doing a forged 427 LQ9, with the 3.4L whipple...
Going standalone to make it all work, including with my stock cluster...
Using my existing fuel system, getting accessories off of a junkyard ls1, doing an 8 rib pulley set up with all of it. Getting a lower intake manifold from whipple, used for ls1 setups (mainly in sand rails) and modifying it to fit the 3.4 in a way everything will line up. No more MAF tuning as well...
All my previous intercooler stuff will also be used...
Also, backing it with either a th400 or a 4l80e (if i want overdrive) manual valve automatic... Using my built solid 8.8 until it breaks, with a custom length driveshaft...
Already found a company that makes the K MEMBER for the swap. Tranny mount will be custom... Using all my existing intercooler "stuff"...
And already got a guy that will do the custom wiring...
I am doing this build out of my garage this time, without the assistance of a shop. The only thing I'll have done by them is wiring the engine management ****, and tuning of course... Motor comes out this week...

martin you just made my day! I'm about a month or so away from being done, figures you blew ur **** before mine is on the road again.
it's nice to see you are finally coming to your sense's and going bowtie
can't you just fix the bad hole and go with a sd tune (sorry don't know **** about fords)
just get a junkyard lq4 and get that pig on the road. then source another for the built monster.

Thanks!!
Thanks for the props... I'll get a better pic of the wheels up soon. And yes, after much thought and discussion, we thought this route would be very interesting, and fun, and VERY different...
Our tastes differ... To each his own. I mod my car and the body of my car to my OWN likings. Not to anyone else's...
Thanks!!!

That's a sick *** Cobra man, well done. I like the spoiler, is that Saleen style? Not really a fan of the carbon fiber hood though. But good luck on your engine swap I'm sure all the mechanical guru's here can help you out with whatever you need.

gonna be a sweet build...i think itd be cool to leave some carbon fiber stripes for the scoops and paint the rest of the hood to match, just MO. BTW i had an '01 cobra in that color. fun car
