Default ready for the long one?

Ex-Ford guy here saying hello, i been floating around in mustangforums for awhile now soaking as much info as i could about the mustangs (1st time v8 owner soon) and after months of reading and researching i came to a conclusion so now im here. i dont own a chev yet but im looking at an auto 2001 z28. might be picking it up soon, anyways i got a few question as to what to do with simple bolt ons? i hear the ls1 reponds very well to mods unlike the mustang that only gain a few rwhp through an h/c/i so any input will be welcomed. i am shooting for 300-400 rwhp N/A if possible

Well congrats to moving over to the chevy side. Most I can tell you is a h/c/i should get you to 400+ rwhp. Dont forget about the exhaust to help along that gain. Lots of input and advice on here so feel free to check out the other forums on there and good luck!!

That 01 Z28 will be around 300rwhp stock. With bolt-ons and a head/cam package it could easily be over 400. Welcome to the darkside...

I drive my cam only z28 everyday and its just fine. You have to find the right cam for drivability (228r,224,or talk to Pat G. on here and have him spec you one.) Headers/exhaust/tune is very fun to drive...until you get used to it.

Kooks LT Headers
Kooks Catted Y-Pipe, the ORY will tend to make the exhaust very raspy
GMMG Cat-back, Very good tone may not be the loudest but the best sounding
A Dyno Tune for get the hand held, You will make more power and get it all to work together

If you keep your eyes open you may can find the stuff for cheap. I got my kooks stainless with jet hot coating off here for $500 and that was to my door, got GMMG exhaust off another site for $450 locally and bought a new Y-pipe and traded for a Catted one with the guy that sold me the GMMG but that stuff goes fast. My setup I got off the sites cost me $1250 altough it was all used but it works great. Or you can get QTP Stainless headers the stainless don't rust.

Stay away from *** master (flowmaster) that is worser than the stock exhaust and they don't sound good on the f-body's but they are great on a mustang. GMMG or if you have a budget look at SLP Loudmouth1 or SLP Loudmouth2 or SLP power-flo exhaust

175 is pushing it but the general consensus is 150 is safe
Here's my set up if you don't understand something do a search (I would explain it but I'm posting from my phone) lol

2001 SS
Xs longtubes
True duals
Dual cutouts
Slp lid
Ftra
Ls6 oil pump
Msd wires
K&n
Tr-6's
Hsw/brand x wet kit
Msd window switch
Extreme performance stage 2 4l60e
Circle d 4c stall
B&m 24k trans cooler mt drag radials

Waiting to go with the cam I ordered:

The chokemaster is just that..... I suggest Magnaflow for a catback, or go true duals.

Lid (any brand all the same)
Pacesetter L/T Headers ( Cheaper and basically as good as the more expensive ones)
Hooker Catback (Cheapest and sounds great with L/T)
Custom ory (Pay your exhaust shop to make one shouldnt cost but around 100)
3200-3800 stall (PTC, Circle D, Vig, Yank)
Trans Go shift kit
DYNO TUNE (Pay to get the most of your mods!)

x2! i hated my flowmaster, my magnaflow is much louder and not annoying, slp is not a bad exhuast but some of them are a little raspy IMO

lol feel like **** even mentioning the flows (the stang transition is moving along) but i like the mods home21 suggested. how much will a dyno tune wake these cars up? oh btw idk if i specify but the car will be a dd/weekend warrior so i dont need to be in the 11's or anything just something around the 12's or so.

Bolt on's will put you in the 12's. With a Sticky Tire and the right TC/Cam you could be in the 11's cam only if your lucky.

I'm already in the 12s with my mods

I've got a FTI 3500 converter right now. You will find that you won't even need heads to get to 400rwhp depending on the cam specs with full bolt ons. Look into an under drive pulley too, good for about 5-10rwhp I hear? Lid and full exhaust is a good place to start like everyone is saying. Dyno tuning will most def wake up the car if you are seriously going to do some mods. Really helps extract everything from your car.
