Hello from me and my soon to be ls1 rx7
Hi guys, so I am building an 88 LS1 powered FC. Right now I am in the process of prepping the car. Here are some pictures of what I have done over the past week. Bought some 04 GTO heads and they will be going onto an ls1 block I will be picking up.
I have a more involved build thread, but I don't want to list everything here right now because it revolves more on the chassis than the powerplant right now.
Now onto the pictures
Here it is on the day purchased...
Broken Wankel needs to GTFO.
Tearing it down some so I can learn more about rotaries.
New 100 dollar 2pc wheels with good tires for the five lug swap to get me started.
Gutting the nasty interior; I will be going complete interior, but the old stuff was broken and the smell of wet smoking dog could not be removed.
The old heart was removed...
Dirty bay needs a cleaning...
Almost clean and starting to wire tuck the chassis harness...

Looks good. I'm also ditching the rotary. Doing research here and on the v8rx7forum. Looking to drop in a ls1/ls2 in my 93 RX7. Hoping to get all parts b4 winter so i can be ready for next spring.

Here are some teaser pictures everybody...no gaskets yet but I just threw on some of the fasteners because I got impatient. The new addition is the fuel rail and injectors along with the TB and head studs.
TB was dirty and stock when received, I ported it out and added a few coats of paint to different areas . As for the fuel rail, I tried to polish it but after 30 minutes of frustration with the tight areas, I just painted it LOL.

The diff IIRC is a NA diff, but supposedly it has a Cusco type II LSD. I think it will be easier just to try to drive it, and if it blows I will just replace it then.

Arrgghhh...just dropped close to 300 more on a full gasket kit with MLS head gaskets (great price compared to all other deals, GM application gaskets are expensive).
BTW got the water pump as well a few days ago.
IIRC I just need the following for the motor to be done.
Oil Pan/Windage/Pick up
Crank for 5.7
Harmonic Balancer & bolt (Manual weight)
Alternator & starter
PCM harness (this I don't need for a while)
Coils with brackets/wires
Spark plugs
Thats it :ugh:...it has seriously taken forever getting this block put together, but it is actually quite relaxing in fun, hopefully it all turns out to work great in the end. After this, I will be waiting quite a while to save up for a rebuilt/low mile t56. After that, I will wait to buy a GSS kit and then throw it all together. In the money saving time for the trans I will be prepping the car (i.e. heater core line relocation, Speedo conversion, 5 lug swap).
Thanks for everyone's help
