Default 2001 Pontiac Trans Am - A4

Hello, new LS1 owner. Ive got a 2001 T/A thats Medium Red Metallic. I love it and I've been learning all kinds of new things about my motor on these forums. The real reason I'm posting here is I'd like to have access to post/reply in the other forums. Like the Classifieds and vehicle specific forums.

Hello and welcome. Enjoy your ride man. Do you have a stall (performance torque converter) yet? I was just wondering since you have a built transmission it would be a great idea to get a converter too.

Hello, thanks for the welcome! No I don't have a stall converter, the previous owner had the transmission rebuilt with some premium parts and a faster shift. It'll chirp the tires going into 2nd.

A friend of mine has talked about the idea of getting a 3k stall conv. But I'm still in the middle of lining a few projects out first. The Bird has been away getting repainted for the past few weeks and I've got A/C to repair and an AIR pump to pull out when I get her back. I plan to get an SLP lid and K&N before I have the ECU tuned.

After that I may think about a Stall conv but I'm not to sure about how it would affect the car as my Daily Driver.

We determined it's got a 3.08 ring gear, the previous owner had it at 152mph at 6000rpm in 3rd gear. I'd like to think about dropping money into putting a 3.42 or 3.73 in it... I think a 3.42 would be the better route since I do a lot of highway driving.

Well apparently the converters now that lock up don't affect mileage on the highway but may a little in town. They are supposedly the best "bang for buck" mod you can do to an a4 car. I'm waiting and doing my trans with a nice converter from Yank or Precision Industries, or possibly Circle D. There are others too, shop around and read up on them when it comes time. I also hear 373 gears are nice for these auto cars.

Thats the tallest gear you'd want to put on an A4, but I'm thinking I'd be spinning like 3500 rpms @ 80 mph if I put a 373 in it.

Well it's the highest I'd go with, but then again I'm happy with my 323s and they'll work fine with my stall. 3500rpm sounds higt to me, maybe someone who has 'em will chime in. Maybe you are right, but that sucks if so.

Welcome!!! I have 3.73s in my car. on hwy at 80mph it turns about 3K rpms... the 3.42 would be nice and little more practicle for hwy driving.

btw posting in the Intro section does not count toward you're post count. Visit the other sections like, Wheels, Appearance, Force Ind, Nitrous, or any Tech Sections.
